Winter in the Perry District

It has been far below freezing without snow for weeks now. Our roommates moved out just a weeks ago and so we have been keeping ourselves warm and busy by buying furniture and making our home cozy with just a touch of christmas.

Looking forward to Christmas I let myself meditate on the mystery and beauty of the incarnation.

The Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel, which translated is, God with us (Is 7:14-15).

According to Orthodox liturgy;

"Today the Virgin gives birth to the Transcendent One, and the earth offers a cave to the Unapproachable One! Angels, with shepherds, glorify Him! The wise men journey with the star! Since for our sake the Eternal God is born as a little child "

The Orthodox Church in America comments on this;

"Thus, the feast of Christmas is the celebration of the world’s salvation through the Son of God who became man for our sake that, through him, we might ourselves become divine, sons of God the Father by the indwelling of his Holy Spirit in us".
